Triangle Square Park
Location: At the Intersection of 24th Street, Pennsylvania Ave and Green Street.
Project Origins
The Triangle was a tripping hazard and an eyesore. Over several meetings with the Philadelphia Streets Department and Councilman Jeffery Young’s office, our group has received approval to restore the traffic island into a planted green space.
The Spring Garden Community Development Corporation is also partnering with our group on this project, allowing donations to be tax-deductible.
We are a core group of neighbors who, in collaboration with the City and local Councilman, work to remedy the deteriorated traffic island at 24th and Green Streets (a/k/a “The Triangle.”)
Our group includes folks who started the Friends of Bulldog Park and volunteers who expanded and maintain that Park’s gardens, PHS Tree Tenders, the co-chairs and some members of the Landscape Committee at The Philadelphian, and members of 2 community gardens. We have degrees, careers and training in urban design/planning, soils, plants: collectively over 200 years of gardening, design, and organizational experience.

Our plan is to plant site-appropriate trees and other plants in the new planting bed, to be maintained by our group and other neighborhood volunteers.
We may also install several large flowerpots on the perimeter of The Triangle (without interfering with the curb cuts) and fill those with additional plants.
To pay for the trees, plants, flowerpots, topsoil, bricks and other supplies, our group is contributing our own funds, and we are also seeking donations from neighbors and others interested in beautifying our neighborhood. Our estimated budget for this project is around $11,000.
Next Steps…
For the next phase of this project, we will be putting in edging, perennials, pots, etc.
